Manju Gurung, a national volleyball player and a receptionist at Himchuli Bikas Bank situated in Pokhara, Nepal. A short chit chat with national volleyball player Manju Gurung.

How would you define “success”?
Success is a fruit as a result of hard work.

What is your prospect towards your life?
My prospect towards my life is to be a good sportsmanship.

How far have you finished your level of study?
I am studying B.B.S. 1st year at Pokhara Multi-model school in scholarship as an outcome of good sportsman.

You are a national volleyball player? How do you feel?
Yes, I am. I am really honored to be a part of the National team to stamp a place in the sport-history of Nepal.

How did you start your journey in sports? When?
I started playing since I was 9. I played in the District level volleyball competition from Syanja. We achieved 4th position.

What are your achievements in sports?
I was awarded with Kaski player of the year 2064/65, Bhawani Award and Pulsar popular of the year 2065. We (National team) were able to grab 3rd position in Volleyball at 10th South Asian Games, Srilanka.

What changes did sport brought you in your life and career?
Sports have brought good changes in me. I am a receptionist of Himchuli Bikas Bank as a result of good sportsman.

How would you state the quality of training that the players receive?
The quality of training we receive is not satisfactory. We train few months back when the tournament starts.

If you hadn’t been a sportsman? Which profession would you have chosen?
I would have been an airhostess. I did undergo training for 4 months. Later, I was offered a job in Himchuli Bikas Bank. I took the job.

How does your family supports you?
They are very generous, loving and caring parents. They encourage me highly. They motivate me but don’t let my education ruin.

How do you state the relationship between politics and sports?
Today, politics has been a part of sports. If the system fails to respond on time, games are postponed as a result of strikes and Bandhs. Every aspect gets vandalized resulting in loss.

Are there any happiest moment you encountered?
I was really happy when I was offered a job in Himchuli Bikas Bank by winning the Pulsar popular of the year by 1, 12,000 votes.

How would you motivate upcoming teenagers?
You should be able to sacrifice the luring in benefit aspects that might hinder you to achieve success. Struggle through the way, don’t feel grounded psychologically and always be discipline in any field.

Any last few words you would like to say?
I would like to thank ecollegemodel.com for this opportunity to reveal my thoughts, regards to Himchuli Bikas Bank for the golden opportunity to grant me a job and my family and friends who always stand by me.

Interviews With Ria Acharya (Miss Green Teen 2010)
She is young and pretty. But it was her confidence, intelligence and her exceptional way of presenting herself that impressed the judges at the Miss Teen Green, thus, managed to win the title. She is Ria Acharya! Currently studying at Himalayan White House College in 12th grade, Ria sets out for something larger than life. And at just the age of 16, she’s already starting to depict the features of an independence woman. Want to get to know more bout her? Continue reading….

1. What was the very first thought that crossed your mind when you were announced Miss Teen Green Nepal 2011?
Ria: It was like, I came, I shone, and I conquered. The experience was too overwhelming but I was ready to take in whatever that was headed my way.

2. What’s the best thing about being a teenager?
Ria: (Laughs) The best thing about being a teenager for me is that I can participate in all the teen beauty pageants!! I know there are many other beauty pageants for the age of twenty and above but it still wouldn’t feel the same. It’s different being a Miss Teen.

3. If you were to bring a change in any aspect of our country in one day, what would that be?
Ria: If I were to change anything, I would change the present unstable political situation of our country by appointing the youth. I believe the younger candidates can offer fresh ideas which our nation is deeply in need of. A new mind leads to a newer and a better constitution. I also know understand it is going to be a difficult task regarding the vulnerability of our country but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

4. 3 things people ought to know about you.
Ria: Actually, there are no such things that people ought to know about me. I think my life is an open book.

5. Now that you are a public figure, how would you use that status to bring about a difference in the society or in the country as a whole?
Ria: As a public figure, first of all I’d deliver the message of togetherness and peace to my fellow citizens. We must live together in peace bounded with love for each other. It’s for the fact that I’m just a teenager and a student for now. So I may not be able to perform a miracle but I can certainly bring about a feeling of unity amongst the people of my country.

6. Nepal is facing many problems at the moment, mainly political and environmental. Which one of the causes would you support for, first?
Ria: I think the political problem comes first because nothing comes in the mind of people than our country… And if political situation keeps worsening, then how can our country develop in the future? I don’t think I should be pressurized by what others expect me to do. I should do what is right and I believe that is to better the political situation. If it is stable, it will automatically affect other factors positively, including the environmental issues.

7. 5 words that describe you the best.
Ria: Beautiful, intelligent, talented, confident and honest.

8. Any insight on your love life?
Ria: Like I said earlier I have nothing to hide. So here it goes! (smiles) I am seeing someone right now and it’s been two years of sailing in a relation “ship”. (LOL!)

9. Are you a music lover? What kind of music do you like to listen to?
Ria: Yes, I am definitely a music lover! Who isn’t, right? In general, I enjoy every kind of music…even if it is of languages I cannot understand… (laughs) For instance, French, German… As for my all time favourite songs, I love Michael Jackson’s “Heal The World” and “Love The Way You Lie” by Eminem ft. Rihanna.

10. Your passion, you hobbies…
It might come as a surprise but I love painting! It’s one of my hobbies and also my passion.

Interview With Kristina Allen

Fourteen and roaring to go, Kristina Allen released her first solo album “Na Baadhana / Don’t Tie Me Up”, under the watchful guidance of veteran musician Nhyoo Bajracharya. Penned by lyricist Durga Lal Shrestha, the album consists of seven songs and took three years of hard work and sheer dedication on Allen’s part. Football is another of her life’s passion and given a chance she wants to play for the national team.

What got you into music?
I picked guitar when I was just ten, and then onwards it’s been music 24/7. Avril Lavigne has to be one of the early influences in my life. I fell madly in love with “Complicated”, it was then I realized I wanted to be a singer. I love Colbie Caillat, Jason Miraz, Ciney Gurung, Jindabaad, and Albatross.

How did “Na Badhana” happen?
I never intended to release an album –album, it was a project, to start off with. Working with Nhyoo Bajracharya has been blessing in disguise and he has really helped me in my singing.

Describe the album.
If I were to label the album, the compilation is definitely pop. It’s an easy, happy go lucky listen, with a little bit of everything. You’ll find shades of acoustic, blues, and rock music and the English song I wrote has a very Avril Lavigne feel to it. “Na Badhana”, the title of the album is inspired by teenage years, and conflicts with controlling parents. There are times when you just want to be left alone, it’s about having space.

Any plans for a video shoot?
Music videos are becoming mandatory these days, we are very visual animals, and a good video can do wonders to a song, provided the song is good to start with. I’m thinking of making a video, but have to take permission from my father first (laughs). You can’t deny the impact music videos have on the recording industry.

Do you think picking up an instrument helps an artiste?
Absolutely, it makes you more independent, self sufficient. You ought to give it a try, if you don’t have a feel for it, just try something else. I started off with piano, didn’t work so moved on to guitar.

How do you go about creating songs?
For me it starts with melody. I sort of throw random chords together, and if it sounds good, then I go about the business of stringing words to it. Creating melody comes much easier to me, compared to lyrics; sometimes, they both come at once – which is always nice! (Smiles) However it all depends on my mood.

Aside music, what keeps you busy?
If I’m not strumming my guitar, you’ll probably find me kicking. I’m a huge football fanatic (laughs). I play attack and seriously want to be in a football team. Clicking photos has to be another of my passion, followed by cooking. Thangka painting also keeps me busy.

What’s your wildest dream?
I want to either play or manage the Liverpool Football Team. I would give anything for that (laughs). And yes, I’ve also applied for the national team here in Nepal, hoping for positive response (fingers crossed).

Your experience as a recording artiste.
You can’t afford to give up, just keep on going! It’s not impossible but it is not easy, you have to be prepared for some major hard work. It was tough for me recording in Nepali, as I did find emoting a little testing. I’m really thankful to Nhyoo Bajracharya’s patience and guidance.

What’s down the line?
My respect for artistes and the recording industry has risen to a total new height. It’s tough! But my experience has also fueled my desire to do more. I might come out with an EP of acoustic songs with Sunny Tuladhar of Jindabaad. And like I said, I want to pursuit football, and maybe national team (?) Hoping for busy days! (Smiles)

Rajesh Payal Rai, one of the brightest stars of the Nepal, has contributed much for the musical as well as film industry of Nepal. Rai, has already proved his versatility in singing in the past 15 years. He was born to Mr. Ratna Rai and Mrs. Sanchalaxmi Rai in 20th of august. He was into singing since his childhood and in the year 2047; he recorded his first song “Samjhana Ko Kura Nagara” while he was still in grade 10. He cleared his S.L.C from Champawati Secondary School while his I.A. from R.R. College, Kathmandu. He was highly inspired by his parents and colleagues who motivated him and boosted his confidence. He then finally decided to take music as his profession. He recorded “Failiyo Maya Dubo Sari” in the year 2049, which was highly appreciated.

You are a prominent as well as a versatile singer, how many songs of yours have been recorded till date?

Altogether, I have recorded about 1,800 songs of different genre like pop, classic and modern.

Which songs of yours are you mostly satisfied and is close to your heart?

I am mostly satisfied with the song “Shiraiful Shirbandhi Hath Ma Rumal Kaandh Ma Galbandhi” which is from the album “Kamana.” It reflects the life style of Limbu’s, their festival ‘Palam’, culture and tradition which I presented in a modern form to the viewers and was appreciated a lot.

It is a world of competition and competitors are increasing day by day, whom do you take as your biggest threat?

Well, I don’t take my coworkers as my competition as they are also contributing towards the Nepalese musical arena. Though, in the Nepalese film industry, Udit Narayan Jha and I used to sing most of the songs so somewhere felt a bit of a rivalry against him.

At your age, you should be married by now but you are still a bachelor. During your teenage years, you might have received a lot of love proposals?

I am telling you the truth that I haven’t yet fallen in love. I am most of the time occupied by my work, and after my song “Failiyo Maya Dhubo Sari” I never turned back. I was more into work and I didn’t have time for such things. To me definition of love is my work.

Seeing your schedule it seems that you had no time for your own but now you have achieved fame, now at this age, don’t you think it’s time for you to tie the knot?

Haha..aaa.. Do I look that old☺? I am just waiting for an appropriate time. Currently, I am planning to fly abroad for a program and I will be busy with it for the next six months and my parents are also in U.K at this time. After completion of my work, I will surely think about it.

You are still unmarried, though do you have any idea of sex?

Lol…..with a long laugh, it’s not that one should be married to know about it. Though I am still a bachelor, I have proper knowledge about it.

As you can see, lots of mms videos of artists in an intimate situation are hitting the market. What is your view regarding it?

In my perspective, I feel that people themselves create such fuss to get popular.

How do you take life as?

Life is full of struggle. We have to face lots of ups and downs in our life.

What do you like to do in your leisure’s?

During my leisure’s I like to listen to rock songs. I try to listen songs which are completely different from mine.

Something that very few people know about you.

That’s a secret☺. I like to stay naked when I am alone in my room.

Lastly any words for us?

Ecollegemodel.com is among my favorites though I am quite sad as none of my songs are uploaded in this site till now but hope that it will be uploaded in the coming future.

“My parents named me Abhaya, the fearless one. So I got to do things out there without any fear!!” Abhaya Subba Weise is voluble, impossibly self-confident, and delivers a knockout performance every time she steps on stage.
One of the few rock divas in Nepali music industry, she’s not one to mince words. Here, she shares about her upcoming album, a new music video, and future projects.

What has been Abhaya Subba Weise upto lately? Do share!
As an individual, I’ve been juggling my family, music, and Dashain shopping, and wishing for a 32-hour day. However, the last few weeks have had been unreasonably hectic for me.
We, as a band, have been squeezing in practice for live performances, and we just finished work on our new video, “Malaipani hasnadeu.” Right now, the focus is on setting up our new home studio to record our third Nepali album. Phew, busy days!

What can we expect from your highly anticipated, most awaited album?
Please don’t expect much (Smiles). It’s an album full of rock music with some old songs of ours getting new treatments, and some new rock songs with futuristic sounds. Our first album was safe, our second album delved into the folk rhythmic modes of our takes on Nepaliness, and the third is going to be a bit futuristic. It’s a rock album with an electro-funk twist to it!

How important is a music video of a song?
How important is oxygen for survival? Music videos have become that vital for songs. Over the years, we, as a band, have realized that the songs with music videos are the ones that people respond to while we perform live. I guess we humans are visual creatures; people are so motivated by what they see; it’s become priority number one to make as many music videos as possible. So, rather than critiquing this new trend of listening to music, I guess it’s easier for us to be flexible. It’s not much of a compromise; it just costs us tons of money – that’s all! (Laughs)

Inside a recording studio or performing live?
There are two different experiences altogether. If one has the luxury of owning one’s own recording studio, then one can experiment and just go wild with creativity. It’s the process of creation; we get to express what’s inside our minds. It’s like the Photoshop for musicians; you can edit, tweak, and improve on your ideas. On the other hand, live music is like Kinetic energy! It’s the energy that we feed off each other. I love live music because we get an immediate reaction. We go out there and bare our souls, and hope to god that the mass can connect with us. You have to be your 120 per cent. If you aren’t giving your all in a performance, no way do we deserve to be there on the stage – it’s as simple as that. So yeah, I like both the processes – one of creation, and the other of harnessing everybody’s energy into that one song that we play!

We hear you’re planning an all-English, western album very soon?
Yes, this has been in the pipeline for a very long time. Doing music in Nepali is very fulfilling, but all artists look for larger audiences to sustain their artistic hunger. And since English is a language that reaches out to millions of people, we want to give a shot. It’s time we stepped out of our comfort zones and aimed higher, out of the little pond and into a new world. We may be liked, we may not be successful at all, but Abhaya & the Steam Injuns dare to take on the world. If we fall flat, at least we fall trying.

This is a tough industry to survive in. What keeps you motivated to stay with it?
It has to be the love of music. That’s the only reason why we keep coming back for more. Music is that proverbial love, beautiful yet hard to attain. It’s that elusive quality that keeps us hooked and together.

Reshma Sunuwar, known for her peppy songs and infectious beats, is all set to release her third studio album called “Landmark 6” this month. The “Mai thuli bhaichhu re” hit maker has performed in around 700 stage shows till date and recently came back after performing in Dubai.Born in a musical family in Okahladhunga, she always knew she wanted to be a singer. Here’s our one-on-one with the singer:

What’s your new album like?
This is my third album and I’m very excited about its release. The other two were “Reshma” and “Mai thuli bhaichhu re” released in 2002 and 2007 respectively. My new album has similar ingredients. You’ll find peppy songs, and it’s a very happy album. There are seven songs in Landmark, composed by the likes of Shiva Mukhiya, Biju Bajracharya, Mahesh Khadka, Roj Moktan, and Sugam Pokharel.

Any particular song in the album that you think will stand out?
I’m hoping “Huri ayo, khosi lagyo chunari” penned by Yadav Kharel and set to music by Biju Bajracharya will turn out to be a crowd pleaser. The other song I’m really rooting for is “Radha Rani,” composed by Mahesh Khadka, and it should be a pleasant listening as well.
Is there a particular singer, national or international, with whom you would like to do duets?
I was on cloud nine when I got the opportunity to work with Sugam Pokharel in my upcoming album. And nothing would please me more than doing duets with him. I’m sure the opportunity will arise, and I won’t miss it. (Laughs) I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

How do you balance being a mother and pop icon?
When my son was small, it was a bit challenging. But now that he’s all grown up, it has made life easier. He currently studies in the eighth grade at Galaxy Public School, and is very supportive of my work. In fact, he’s often asked by his friends to introduce them to me. He’s such a sweetheart.
Share with us your fitness regime?
I love making new friends. I’m very social by nature. I guess being happy is what keeps me fit. And yes, I do enjoy dancing, a lot. I do have a gym membership but I only drop in there occasionally. (Smiles)
Anything you would like to clear about you, your image?
I’ve heard that I appear proud and haughty, which isn’t true. I’m very talkative and outgoing. I guess I’m a victim of the first impression gone wrong.
A few things your fans don’t know about you?
I enjoy the limelight and my life as a singer. I don’t have any skeleton inside my closet. Being an extrovert, I really don’t have anything hidden.

What do you enjoy besides singing?
Dancing is my next biggest indulgence. I get into the groove easily and have taken a six-month basic course in classical dancing. I’m sure it’s pretty evident if you go see my music videos.
Any projects in the pipeline?
Besides my soon-to-be released album, I’ve recorded two songs for the films “Drabya” and “Saurya.” Two songs from my album, “Euta phool” and “Huri ayo,” have already been made into music videos; the latter has been directed by Bhushan Dahal.
I’m also doing a film which is being scripted by my father. It’ll be made in the Sunuwari language, and since I’m fluent in it, I accepted the lead role. Why not? Life’s too short not to try everything.© myrepublica

20 Years & Still Counting
27 August 2010-Friday

-Alok Thapa

A career in music that spans two decades Dhiraj Rai is back, and he is back with a bang. The “Luki Luki” singer has launched his new album, aptly titled “20 years”, and is busy with promotional work. We caught up with the star, who graciously took some time out of his busy schedule to have a talk with us.
1. How’s your new album – 20 years going on?
Well it’s going on pretty well .The promotional song for the album “Ki Bachna Deu” is doing well. Even though it’s a little different from the usual Dhiraj Rai style, the listeners are liking it. But there are other numbers that reflects the typical Dhiraj Rai style, dancing numbers!
2. 20 years is such a long period of time .How has your experience been so far?
It seems like a dream. When I first started singing it was very hard for pop singers to break into the mainstream music scene. There was no place for Nepali pop in Radio Nepal. None of the Music companies were interested in pop album. People used to say ‘yo pop git vaneko du dinko matra ho.. tespachhi yo haraera janchha..’ in radio Nepal. We were like “kagko bichma bakulla”, you can just imagine how tough it must have been, poor us! But with the establishment of Fm stations and private channels, pop gradually started to flourish. Stage programs were frequently done abroad and concerts like these helped pop singers to be financially stable. It wouldn’t be presumptuous to say that, now pop music has become part of our culture!.
3. You are often known as the best stage performer; other even calls you Nepali Michael Jackson. How do you react?
I’m so glad that people love my performance. I love the rush of live performance and it literally keeps me on my toes. Almost six months in a year I’m busy doing stage programs abroad, and it’s always such a joy. I do think people like me dancing and singing (laughs). But that was not the case before, I still remember how people used to laugh at me, seeing me sing and dance at radio Nepal. It was very tough, I vividly recall this incident where one of the senior musician lambasted at me, ‘ki nacha, ki gau yo ke nautanki garirakheko?’ But it has all changed for good, touch-wood, people have accepted and realized that stage performance is also an art.
4. There has been a lots of pop singers who were popular at a time but vanished after a certain period but you have maintained your popularity throughout these 20 long years, how has it been possible?

I think, I was lucky because my very first attempt was a hit, which motivated me to achieve more, to better myself. After “luki luki aankha timi” I have never looked back. I have always believed in experimenting and taking risk is a must. If you go through my discography you’ll see that I have tried my hands in different styles, be it sentimental, dance or lok pop. I have always tried to give variation in my composition and they all have been fruitful. On a personal level I have done lot of sacrifices and have compromised, but they have all been worth it. Secondly I think music should not be taken as merely a hobby, rather one should be dedicated to it. It’s not “Euta Geet Gayera Raata Raat Hit Bhaencha” but it takes time and lots of patience.
5. This is a tough industry to survive, what keeps you motivated to stay with it?
Music is something that makes me happy; it’s like food for the soul. I believe there’s a soul inside every individual and we all are part of this infinite cosmos and the unification with the divine is the ultimate satisfaction. And music is the ultimate medium. It’s in nature and it comes naturally to me. So music itself is big motivational factor for me.

Yes, it is as what Darwin said – Survival of the fittest. Everyday there are lots of singers trying their hands in the music business, but the majority do no have an identity of their own. They tend to emulate others and become just one of the many acts out there. One should have his signature, his style which represents him or her as an individual. And yes, the most important thing is dedication and passion. I believe that you are your own competition, and you should always try to better your previous record. Maybe that’s my secret to longevity (smiles).
6. You are also involved in other profession. You are a lecturer in different colleges and even an architect overseer, how do you manage your time?
When I started my music career, pop music had a very limited scope and thus had to reach for alternative means to fulfill my financial needs. I started my career as an overseer but one thing lead to another, and since I love to teach, I started to coach English language in different institutes. Later after doing my master’s degree in English literature I started my career as a lecturer, full time. I go to college in the mornings, and do my engineering works during the day time. Time management is very important, and nothing is impossible.

7. Do you think it’s important to train for music? God’s gift or just lots of practice?

I don’t believe in “empiricism” that is knowledge comes from experience but rather I believe in “rationalism”. Art is an innate quality or is an inborn talent. Of course, it can be improved upon by training but it should be there in the first place, by birth. You need a base upon which you can build a foundation.

8. Next to singing what is your passion?

I’m a big time reader, love books. There are some that have really inspired me, one of my all time favorites is Harriet Beecher Stowe’s -“Uncle Toms Cabin”. It deals with anti-slavery, and this very writing was a catalyst in the movement against slavery. Other books that have a prominent place in my little library are: Beloved – Tony Morrison, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austin, Frankenstein by Marry Shelly and Robinson Crusoe by Denial Dafoe.

9. What’s in store for the Future?

Right now promotions for my new albums 20 Years, is taking up most of my time, and I’m busy with my second music video. I am also embarking on a Nepal Tour and come Dashain couple of abroad programs are in the pipeline.
10. Lastly, what is your message?
Everything I am today is all because of my fans, their love and support. It’s because of them; I’m Dhiraj Rai the Nepali singer. I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude. Your love has always inspired me to do music, and my new album “20 Years” is out in the market. Please do listen and any comments, suggestions would be appreciated. God bless! © Cybersansar

Malvika Subba is beautiful and got all the charm to dazzle others. She was crowned Miss Nepal in the year 2002. She has all it takes to call her an all rounder as she has tried her luck in most of the field in the media and cherished by her viewers. She is motivated in her every acts and enacts it flawlessly. She is also into modeling, VJ and acting. At present, she is working as a Sales and Marketing Manager at Shangrila Housing. She is a confident, fun and intelligent woman.

Here’s a short interview with her:

Tell me about your childhood? Like what kind of person you were and what you wanted to become at that time?

I was a total geek as a kid, a tomboy, used to wear glasses, still do, climb trees, the BMX queen back then. A book worm, who used to read lots and lots of books, took part in all the extracurricular activities. At the same time, I was a shy and timid girl. I wanted to be a doctor as a kid, , but after SLC, I completely dropped the idea and took up commerce, because there was no media classes or colleges back then. At some point growing up after watching MTV and CHANNEL V, I wanted to be on TV.

Did you have any crush/affair with anyone in your school days? If yes, with whom?
Well my huge crush was Sanjay Dutt back in those days .hahahaha

Now tell me at present, what would an average person say about you?
Well, I wouldn’t be able to answer that, coz I have never asked…

What turn did your life take after winning “Miss Nepal’s Crown”?
I went from being the simple girl next door to a celebrity over night. It was tough adjusting at first, it still is at times. But I got used to it eventually. I still am known as Miss Nepal. I got many opportunities, respect and offers. Got to work with many social organizations, still do.

In your view, why should beauty contest like Miss Nepal should/shouldn’t be organized?
In our society, young people, specially girls have a closeted life; have limited life, going to college. So Miss Nepal gives them an opportunity to develop their personality, teaches them about various aspects of life and career. It is a step forward to life, and is a teaching and learning experience. That is why it should happen.

What do you like to be known as; a VJ, Model, Former Miss Nepal or now an actress?
I think I will always be known as Miss Nepal. I am currently in the housing business as sales and marketing manager. Someday, I would want to be known as a successful entrepreneur.

What was the reason for quitting “Call Kantipur ” programme that used to be broadcasted by Kantipur television?
I was bored of doing the same thing everyday, there was no progression, and I wanted to move on. I went to Delhi after that, and worked for a year at Voice of India.

Now, you have become an actress; tell me if you were interested in doing movies from before or not and had you thought that someday you will become an actress of Nepali Movie?
I was never into doing movies, or acting. It just happened by chance. Both my films are offbeat. And that is my area of interest.

Would you like to share the synopsis of “Goodbye Kathmandu” and the character you are enacting in?
Good Bye Kathmandu , is based on real life stories, some fictional , on the time of 2004/2005, when the country was going through various political turmoil. It’s the story about 3 families, youngsters and how their life gets affected. My character Maya , is an INGO worker, a gender specialist, who is also a singer. She is an independent and a strong woman, who motivates the protagonist character to work in Nepal.

Apart from media, are you engaged in any other sectors? If yes, where & your job responsibility?
I am with Shangrila Housing as the Sales and Marketing Manager since the last one and a half years.

Is there anyone special in your life? How would you define love?
I am very single at the moment. For me, there is no specific definition of love. I guess it’s an emotional feeling.

When are you planning to settle down and have a family?
I have no plans as such, haven’t thought about it

Where can we find you on typical weekend, if you aren’t doing your formal works?
Chilling out with friends, out of the valley or a picnic somewhere

Do you have a favorite drink when at clubs or bar?
For summers I love Mojitos, or wine

How about a favorite food to go along with the drink?
Umm I like pastas, but there is no special preference.

What kind of music are you listening to these days?
R n B has always been my fav..i am listening to Usher at the moment .

Do you think it’s romantic to kiss your date on the first date?
It depends on the chemistry that you share with the person, but you don’t want to come off as being too easy. So no. Its best to wait.

Suppose you found a lamp and out pops a genie, you get one wish, what would it be?
Travel the world in 80 days!

Any secrets you would like to share about your beauty and youthfulness?
Directed and produced by Narayan Rayamajhi, the Nepali feature film will debut Tamang in the lead role. Republica had a chat with Tamang during the music release function of the movie. Excerpts:

How has life changed ever since you became Indian Idol?

Certainly, the Indian Idol award has given me so much. First and foremost, it introduced me as somebody. Before I became the idol, hardly anybody cared what I was doing. It has fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a singer and it has given me a vision to grow up as a singer.

</ins><ins>In Bollywood, stardom is like that castle of sand by the sea which can be swept away easily by unfortunate tides. Many singers have disappeared and only a few have succeeded in the industry. Where do you see yourself?</ins><ins>

I’ve to admit this that it’s not that easy to live up to one’s expectation in Indian film industry. Likewise, it’s a Herculean task to maintain one’s stardom. Sometimes, it’s not just the talent; it’s also the luck that really matters. I also have to admit this that I’m still a beginner and there’s still a long way to go. I’ll definitely not give up.

As you’re also in the battalion of Darjeeling police, it must be really difficult managing time for music while also working for the battalion.

My battalion is very supportive toward my love for music. It’s because of them that I’ve reached here so far. They’ve been flexible in terms of my work schedules.

But if you have to someday choose between music and your profession, which will you go for?

Well…that’s a tough question to answer right now. But suppose if I really have to choose between the two, I believe my department will understand if I chose music.

Most of the Indian Idols, apart from the first Idol Abhijeet Sawant, are hardly into showbiz and it seems like they all disappeared from the limelight.

See…it’s really competitive out there. Nonetheless, I’m not trying to say that I’m not ready to face the difficulties. I’m ready to go through all hurdles. But to be very honest, I haven’t been offered for anything in Indian music industry so far. May be the right time for me is yet to come. Regarding the disappearance of other Indian Idols, all of them are busy with their own musical projects.

With “Gorkha Paltan” you’re trying your hands at acting too. How did this happen?

Apart from longing to become a singer, I also wanted to become an actor. And, the role that I’ve been offered in the movie is a blessing in disguise.

But don’t you think mixing two genres (singing and acting) together may ruin your singing career?

Both the genres you’re talking about come together under a single umbrella of art. It would rather be fun to sing for myself in the films I do. Besides, I also need to prove some people that I can act as well. A few told me that I’m not fit for an actor’s role. I need to prove them wrong.

While many hesitate to begin a career in the already sinking Nepali film industry, you seem to be very positive about your career…

If you can’t take the risks, you will do nothing extraordinary in life. Somebody has to take the risk and there has to be a beginning. Nepali silver screen is not as difficult to handle as it is often portrayed. I’m satisfied but there’s much more to be done </ins>
